Saturday dinner – 02/27/2010

This week the menu is something of an old favorite. Sometimes you hit upon a combination that just works. There’s something about perogies and succotash that just go so well together. Add in some caramelized onions & a pork product and call it a meal.

Menu
Roasted sausages with fennel & mustard glaze
Cheddar & potato perogies
Corn, kidney & lima bean succotash
Beer Bread with Thyme & onions

Cobbly Cake #2 by ted_badger for dessert

Saturday dinner – 02/20/2010

Some years back I received Something for Everyone as a gift. This cookbook seeks to allow the cook to make a master recipe and then shows ways to split it to serve both vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike. For the most part the recipes are straight forward and tasty.

I was leafing through the book last weekend looking for some inspiration and found their recipe for “Asian Noodles”. That was the starting point for this weeks two dish menu.

February 20, 2010 Menu
Stir-fried Pork
Asian Noodles with Broccoli and Bok Choy
Homemade bread with guajillo chili (from ted_badger)

Banana cream pie with whipped cream & caramel sauce (also by ted_badger)

Saturday night – 02/13/10

Often times I build the Saturday night menu around whatever protein is on sale at my preferred grocery provider. Sometimes someone’s birthday is creeping up upon us and I try to cook something I know they are particularly fond of. And other times I decide to use an obscure excuse to cook something that I want to eat. 🙂

This week the obscure excuse is that Ash Wednesday is this coming week. Ash Wednesday makes me think of Mardi Gras, Mardi Gras makes me think of New Orleans and New Orleans reminds me, among other things, of red beans & rice. Guess what was for dinner this week.

February 13, 2010 Menu
Red Beans & Yellow Rice
Oven roasted chicken drumsticks with Ted’s BBQ sauce
Tomato & Basil bread (from Panera)

Apple Pie for dessert (thank you ted_badger)
