We celebrated V’s 9th birthday this week. The last time we saw her I asked what she would like for a birthday dinner. She said she wanted perogies… and beets. Trying to come up with a menu that included both of those without seeming plain weird was a challenge. I think we did OK.
Baked spiral ham
Potato & cheddar perogies with caramelized onions & sour cream
Braised red cabbage
Wild yeast sourdough batards
Yellow cake w blackberry jam & blackberry frosting
There were 10 for dinner (7 adults & 3 kids).
The cabbage was OK. Not a ton of flavor. It would make a good base for something though. We had a lot leftover.
Ted made both the bread (batards) & the cake from scratch. Very tasty & pretty looking cake. Hopefully he’ll post a picture of it.
