Saturday night – 10/19/2013

Chicken breasts were on sale at Ye Olde Mega Grocery and we had a couple of butternut squashes kicking around. That was enough to start a menu.

There were 9 of us for dinner this week (6 adults; 3 child).

Removing the bones from the split chicken breasts is a bit tedious. There’s a reason why they sell the boneless skinless breasts for 3 times to costs of bone-in/skin-on breasts. Still I’m happy with my butchery today and we now have the start of new bone pile for stock.

The cabbage took about twice as long as usual to soften. I ended up adding a half cup of water over the course of 30 minutes to make sure there was some liquid available at the bottom of the pot. The result was OK but not quite as top notch as previous efforts.
