Saturday night – 11/16/2013

The genesis of this menu was something I made last month for a weeknight dinner.I think the meal worked out well.

Baked Chicken Thighs
Potato Gnocchi with Parmesan and Butter
Swiss Chard and Beans
Buttered Corn

Meringues with Pears, Chocolate Sauce and Whipped Cream

We had a very full house this week. There were 13 of us for dinner this week (9 adults; 4 child).

My original plan was to make Gnocchi with Swiss Chard and Beans and serve it with the chicken. After a bit of thought I separated out the gnocchi since at least one of our guests balks at food all combined together. Little did I know that half the children think gnocchi are heavenly. They would have gladly eaten just gnocchi all night long.

I thought I didn’t have enough food at some point during the evening so I pulled a bag of frozen corn from the freezer and added it to the menu. Nothing special there.

Dessert was based on Meringues w/Pear, Chocolate Sauce & Whipped Cream by Jamie Oliver. Ted made individual meringue shells this time. We used jarred pears because perfectly ripe ones are such a pain to find. A couple of folks just ate the meringues; most assembled their own combination.
