A random butternut squash I found in the closet, purchased in November and set aside in a cool dark place, was the basis for the menu this week. A friend asked about the lasagna recipe a month or so ago, reminding me of it and sett[bread that is not a king cake]ing in place a desire to make it again. Everything else sort of fell into place after that.

Menu
Butternut Squash Lasagna
Chicken Thighs with Baked Onions
Butter Beans with Tomato
“Bread that is not a king cake”

“dessert that is not ants-on-a-log” (see note)

Notes
10 gathered for dinner this week (6 adults; 3 kid).

My plans for a salad on the side were foiled by a lack of motivation. Luckily there were canned beans and some lovely tomato sauce in the fridge. It’s not even a recipe, just dump, heat and serve.

Ted was in an adventurous mood cooking wise. The brai[Dessert that is not ants-on-a-log]ded bread looked spectacular and was very tasty. Here’s his description of dessert…

“In the photo are whipped cream, cold-candied celery, and zante currants, and underneath are peanut butter-flavored white beans and grape jelly whipped cream.”

The flavors were well matched.  Most of the adults enjoyed it.  The kids avoided it; their loss.
